We are pleased to announce the opening of our second winery in downtown Montgomery, Texas. The new location, Retreat Hill Cellars compliments our winery and vineyard operation in Navasota. It is located in the old First State Bank Building, 14343 Liberty Street (Hwy. 149 about two blocks north of SH 105). We make wine, blend, barrel age and bottle our wines in Montgomery. We will continue to grow grapes, harvest, crush and produce wine in Navasota. This expansion will allow us to further expand into the Houston market in 2010 and beyond. Both locations are available for private parties, weddings and special events.
Retreat Hill Cellars is open on Friday and Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. We offer lots of Retreat Hill merchandise, including our nearly famous, "Come and Drink It" t-shirts. Our phone is 936.449.5285.
Montgomery will soon be the winery capital of Texas with Cork This! to the south, Texas Star to the north and Retreat Hill Cellars in the middle. When you visit the Texas Bluebonnet Wine Trail, start at Retreat Hill Cellars in downtown Montgomery.
Retreat Hill Cellars is located in the oldest building in downtown Montgomery, Texas, birthplace of the Texas flag. This magnificent building was built in 1906 and was one of the first, "State" banks in Texas. The old vault is still in the building but the safe is long gone. We are going to make small batches of wine in the vault and perhaps prepare an intimate table setting for two or four people for a very unique dining experience. The bank was declared insolvent in the 1930's, but legend has it that someone tried to blow up the safe when the bank was thriving. The black burn marks are still on the wall. Come by and see us and enjoy a great part of Texas history.
